Eye makeup and how to get it just right!
No woman is born perfect but with the right sort of makeup nothing is impossible. The trick is to apply makeup that highlights your best features and covers your weak areas. Eyes are one feature that can be worked upon uniquely. Smoky eyes for example don’t work for everyone.
Whether you think your eyes are too small, too big, too close or too far apart, you need to tweak your make-up to enhance your eyes’ shape. Depending on your eye shape you need to choose different colours and ways of applying makeup. Indian women broadly have 6 distinct eye shapes out of the 16 identified globally namely Round, Almond, Deep Set, Closed Set, Wide Set and Down turned.
For Round Eye Shape
For women with a round eye shape, you can apply eyeliner starting from the inner corners of the eyes working your way out. The edge of the line can either be straight or a small cat eye, whichever you prefer. It is important to highlight the brow bone and apply light eye shadow on the inner corners of the eye. After highlighting, add a medium shade eye shadow above the lid to add contrast. Finish off with a darker shade of eye shadow applied along the crease. Make sure to blend from the outside to the middle of the eyes.
For Almond Eye Shape
If you have almond eyes, then you’re one lucky lady! Almond eyes are the most symmetrical of all eye shapes. It means you can put less effort in achieving symmetry on the eyes which is actually the goal of eye makeup. You can experiment with different looks because it’s hard to make a mistake with this pair of eyes. If you want a guide, the round eyes makeup technique is a great start.
For Deep Set Eye Shape
You don’t need to contour the crease because it will be quite defined already. As tempted as you may be, avoid dark smoky eyes; they give your eyes a more sunken appearance. To make them pop, use light shadows with shimmers and pearlescent sheens that’ll catch the light on the lid and below the brow bone.
For Closed Set Eye Shape
If the inner corners of your eyes are very close to the bridge of your nose, you need to focus on the outer corners. Here’s where you apply your darker/brighter shadows and pull them out. Open up the inner corners with light, highlighting shadows.
For Wide Set Eye Shape
For women who have wide set eyes, the range can be visually reduced if a darker shade is applied from the outer corner of your eye to the middle of the eyelid. Apply a lighter eye shadow from the middle of your eyelid to the inner corner of your eye. Blend in different shades in the middle of the eyelid.
For Down-Turned Eye Shape
Since the eye structure is down turned, women in this category need to use the eye colour in strokes that go upward and out. Apply eye liner close to the upper lash line and then blend in the shadow along the socket line in the outer two thirds of the eyes. Apply dense mascara for a better visual appeal.
